St George's Cathedral, Cape Town
Blessing of the Animals on Sunday 7 October 2007 at 16h00
This year's Blessing of the Animals will again be offered jointly by St George's Cathedral and TEARS [The Emma Animal Rescue Society] in association with the Company's Garden.
This event is open to all animal-lovers and pet owners in Cape Town, and to the animals who share their homes, and is a wonderful opportunity for members of the Cathedral congregation to invite friends who do not ordinarily attend church on Sundays.
The service begins at 16h00 on Sunday 7 October. Enter the Gardens through the first entrance off Government Avenue, and proceed along Lovers' Lane to the large green lawn just opposite The Fernery.
Pets and animal companions will all receive a blessing. Lessons from Scripture and readings about animals will be included in the brief service, led by Dean Rowan Smith.
The Blessing of Animals in or around churches is associated with St Francis, whose feast day is celebrated on 4 October. This popular festival is celebrated around the world and is an opportunity to give thanks for the special role of stewardship that has been entrusted to us as human beings.
If you can display or distribute a few fliers for this event to your animal-loving friends and relatives, please download it here.
