The South Transept
Under the Rose Window in the South Transept is the Gallery, which is a memorial to King George VI, who was the first reigning British monarch to visit South Africa, in 1947, with his wife Queen Elizabeth and their two daughters, Princess Elizabeth (now Elizabeth II) and Princess Margaret. The Gallery provides additional seating, particularly for the Parish Mass at the nave altar.
The brass Lectern, like the Pulpit, is from the old cathedral, and is dedicated to 14 freemasons who were among the 251 lost in the wreck of the RMS Drummond Castle.
