The Link
In the 1970s it was planned to complete the cathedral with a large octagonal multi-use building which, apart from additional seating for large occasions in the cathedral, could serve as a theatre, conference venue or exhibition centre. The Link was the first stage of this planned development, and can be seen between the nave and the proposed octagonal building on the illustration.
A detail of one of two earliest windows, which were made for the old cathedral in 1866, and placed in the west wall of the Link. The window on the left shows the Last Supper.
The Link has direct off-street access and can be used as a separate venue within the precinct. At the main doors to the cathedral stands the orb and cross from the original cathedral's spire.
